While Strolling on the Beach..
By Yolandi Slabbert
When I first met Charles in 2006 at a friends braai, I immediately knew I could spend the rest of my life with this person. Charles’ “no-nonsense”, down to earth personality could definitely compliment my meticulous demeanour. Opposites definitely attract, as he invited me for dinner a few weeks later and we soon became inseparable!
Charles asked me to marry him during our holiday in Jeffrey’s Bay, December 2008. It was everything I hoped for! He asked me while we were strolling on the beach one evening.
The very next day we started planning our big day and went venue hunting in January. We both wanted a garden wedding, but due to the risk of rain, we decided against it. However, when we came across Oakfield Farm, we immediately fell in love with the Summerhouse, as it offers the best of both – you are protected from the elements, but you still have the feeling of a garden wedding with the open setting. Having the date set, everything else followed. We decided on a rustic theme with coral as our wedding colour, which suited the venue perfectly. Every detail was planned carefully, in order to reflect our personalities.
After a year of planning, our wedding day finally arrived. We were blessed with a beautiful summers’ day and everything happened according to plan. As can be expected with all brides, my stress levels were quite high, but Oakfield’s staff managed to calm my nerves with their high level of competency and professionalism. Everything from the horse and carriage to the last dance was special, but the moment I entered the Chapel, I knew that I would remember the expression on Charles’ face forever.
A wedding is an emotional journey that every aspiring bride should experience. All the hours of planning and anticipation are worth the trouble and will present unforgettable memories for the rest of your life.
