Oakfield - Soft and Romantic

By Caitlin Thomas

Firstly, in order to begin our love story, you need to know that my husband is an Estate Agent. I was a house sitter that filled in for him one show day in February 2008 – I even remember the date, the 12th February. I met Byron at the house that I would be sitting at that afternoon. From the moment I saw him, I knew he was the one that I wanted to grow old with. I know it sounds like a cliché, yet this is exactly how I felt.

Fast forward to 2009, when he proposed in the most breathtaking surroundings at a place called Quiet Mountain in the Magaliesberg Mountains. Byron had organised that the staff set up champagne and snacks under the Gazebo at sunset. That moment when he got down on his knee and proposed to me, will forever be etched in my mind. This amazing man wanted me to be his wife and I couldn’t believe my dreams were coming true. From that day on we had 1 year to organise our wedding. We spent the day in the Muldersdrift area looking at venues, and again as soon as I stepped foot into Oakfield, I automatically knew that this was the place that I wanted to marry the man of my dreams. The country feel with the horses and attractive rose gardens blew me away. Oakfield is soft and romantic and epitomises ultimate tranquility. Once we had decided on a date, the 19th March 2010, we were all systems go. The staff at Oakfield were extremely accommodating and enthusiastic in assisting us in planning our big day.

The morning of the wedding was raining. I was absolutely devastated, yet Oakfield promised that they would put a broom in the tree which will “sweep away the clouds.” I have never had people listen to my superstitions seriously before! That afternoon, the sky cleared up and the weather was just magical, just like our surroundings.

The food was mouth watering, the décor was breathtaking and the staff were friendly and efficient. All in all, it was a magical day that couldn’t have gone more smoothly even if we tried.
