A Teenage Crush
By Monique Dias Pestana (sister of the bride)
Alicia and Inacio’s story is one that’ll bring new hope to every teenage girl with a crush on that ‘older guy’ at school. To clarify this statement, let’s take you back to where it all began, November of 1999.
In the Summer of ’99, Alicia, just barely in her teens and Inacio, a sporty guy of 17 or so, both were invited to a wedding, that of Inacio’s sister. This is where Alicia set her big blue eyes on Inacio, and pretty much decided that this was the boy that she wanted. She couldn’t stop talking about him, doodling his name all over the place and getting all giddy as, well, a school girl when Inacio’s name was mentioned. But even though she knew everything about him, Inacio didn’t know that this was all going on, and after Matric, ventured off to Australia for a few years, until his 21st birthday.
Inacio decided to have his birthday back in SA, and by this time, he had heard that this Alicia character had a bit of a crush on him, so he thought he’d investigate.
He strategically worked out his table seating, placing his table near Alicia’s, so he could check her out, and then when he found the perfect moment, asked her to dance. And the rest, well they’re married aren’t they? Not quite.
Unfortunately, Inacio had to go back to Australia, but called Alicia every Friday afternoon. They chatted for hours, until Inacio decided his phone bill was way too high and it was cheaper to just move back to SA.
Alicia and Inacio continued their relationship when he got back to sunny SA. Inacio has often told people if Alicia doesn’t want to marry him, he’d stay a bachelor forever. And in December 2008, he thought he’d see what Alicia would say if he did propose.
They were on their way to visit Inacio’s parents, and while driving, Inacio; forever the prankster; convinced Alicia that something was wrong with his car, that it was swerving. They both got out the car to suss out the problem, and as Alicia went to see if a tyre was flat, Inacio whipped out the ring, went down on one knee and asked the question.
Why did Alicia and Inacio choose Oakfield Farm? Well, firstly the venue speaks for itself and they also have fond memories of weddings they previously had attended there. And it was just right for this couple, they just knew.
Alicia is a very selective, delicate individual, and Inacio is the boisterous, one of the boys, kinda guy and their décor reflected this. Soft lighting, antique coloured flowres and fun all around. It may have been a little chilly, but nothing could dampen the high spirits and the love that filled that day. Family from all over came to celebrate with them and contributed in creating beautiful memories made to last a lifetime.
